| How To Join If you would like to join the 6th Eastcote please click on the link below I would like to welcome you to the
6th Eastcote Scout Group. This page is intended to give you an
insight into the 6th Eastcote Scout Group, who we are and what we do.
Meetings. The three sections meet on a weekly
basis at the Scout Hut in Oak Grove. We do appreciate punctuality and
like to start the meetings on
time.
The sections usually arrive at about 10 minutes before the start time but we
cannot guarantee that there will be a Leader present any earlier. Please don’t
assume that a leader will be there to run a meeting until you are told so. 6th Eastcote Scout Group Now a little information about
joining the troop. The Group terms are the same as the school’s - we arrange
our breaks to coincide with school holidays. All the leaders are volunteers and
the 6th Eastcote is a charitable organisation. The 6th
Eastcote Scout Group and Troop heavily rely on the funds that the subs create.
Without these funds we could not continue to offer the Scouts the exciting,
challenging and fun activities that we provide in our programme. They also
enable us to pay for the rent on the site, electricity, gas and other bills. The
subs are £20-00 per term and the terms start in January, April, and September. Investiture. Before you can be invested you need
to have attended for at least 4 meetings, one of which needs to be an outdoor
activity. During this time you will be put into a Patrol/Six/Lodge of your
preference, which might be with other new members. A Patrol/Six/Lodge consists of a
group of members, with a Patrol Leader/Sixer and an Assistant/Seconder. Once you
have been in your section for at least four weeks and are ready to be invested
(spoken with the leaders and learnt you promise) you will need to get your
section uniform (see section on uniform). With the date set you can invite your
parents along to watch the Investiture and you will be presented with the
Group’s scarf and make the Scout’s Promise. After completing the investiture
you will be officially welcomed to the group and will become a member of the 6th
Eastcote Scout Group. Camps. During the year the troop will put
on one main camp which is usually 8 days long. This is the main camp of the year
and all Scouts are to attend. The dates for the camp are the first day after the
schools break up for the summer holidays. The
cubs run a crackers camp each year which is one weekend at the end of the summer
holidays. Apart from this camp the Scouts and
Cubs attend the Parent and Scout camp held every other year, which as the name
suggests is the one camp where parents can attend.
As well as these main camps we
also organise other camps for training or badge work and the patrols are
encouraged to plan and carry out their own camps and expeditions. Programme. The
Scouts design the weekly programme via the Troop Forum. We try to keep the
programme fun, exciting and challenging and we try to offer as wide a range of
activities as is possible. We have a balanced range of activities and try to
include group badge work, training evenings, practical activities, team building
exercises and outings in each term’s programme. We cover the costs of the
activities from the subs, but if we are going on an outing such as bowling or
ice-skating, we may ask that you cover the cost. We
organise group badge work, although a large portion of badge work requires the
individual Scout's) to work by themselves. We always offer guidance and support
to help the individuals to succeed. All Scouts have different abilities and
badges are awarded based upon the Scouts individual efforts. The Patrol/Six/Lodge System. Each section is divided into groups of five to eight Members. Each group is called a patrol/Six/Lodge and each group has a group name. The Patrol/Six has a Patrol Leader/Sixer who is in charge of the Patrol/Six, with an assistant Patrol Leader/Seconder under him to assist him in the running of the Patrol/Six. In the beaver section they don't have leaders of each lodge. In
the Scout Troop the
programme and decisions concerning the troop are made via a troop forum.
All the decisions made at the forum are discussed with the Scout Leaders before
any actions are taken. This ensures that the ideas and plans are within the
rules of the Scout Association and are in the best interests of the Scout Troop.
As well as the patrols of Scouts, there is a Patrol of Seniors who assist the
Patrol leaders in the running of their Patrols and help run the evenings. Behaviour in the Scout Troop. As
is now commonplace in schools and other youth organisations, the 6th
Eastcote Scout Troop has a Code of Conduct, which details acceptable behaviour
within the troop. Uniform. The
6th Eastcote Scout Group is a uniformed oganisation and we expect all
our members to wear full uniform to all meetings. Parades and Special
Occasions. The
6th Eastcote Scout Group parades twice a year and on these two
occasions we ask that every Scout attends. On St George’s Day we parade
through Ruislip High Street with the District. For Remembrance Day we parade
through Eastcote with the Eastcote Royal British Legion who continue to invite
us to Parade with them every year. These are the two main events in the year and
we ask the troop to wear full uniform and black school shoes (NOT trainers). Ruislip District. The 6th Eastcote Scout
Troop is one of eight other troops in the Ruislip District. The District
Commissioner (DC) is Roger Corti, who has responsibility for all aspects of the
District’s activities. Each section (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts
and Explorers) has an Assistant District Commissioner (ADC) whose role is
to assist the D.C. The District team is there to
support the individual Groups and sections to offer the members of the Scout
Association challenges, fun and excitement in their Scouting. The Leaders. The 6th Eastcote Scout
Group consists of a Beaver Colony, a Cub Pack and a Scout Troop. The Group Scout
Leader (G.S.L.) is Martin Stanworth and his role is the smooth running of all
three sections within the 6th Eastcote. Each section has a Leader and
Assistants, all of who are warranted. The Leaders, Assistants and committee
members are completely voluntary, receive no wages and give up their spare time
to plan and run their section’s meetings and activities. We are always
grateful for any assistance and will welcome anyone who is interested in
becoming a Leader. Parental Involvement. On occasions we require help with
transportation to and from our various camps and activities. It is very
expensive to purchase and maintain a minibus so we rely on parental help with
transport. To help raise funds for the group we hold fundraising events and
activities. Not only are these events fun but they are a vital source of funds
and we welcome any help that you can give and as many people to attend these
events. The Scout Hut is clean and well maintained but to continue to keep it in
this state we need to ensure that repairs and maintainance are ongoing. If you
know of anyone who has a trade or skill (carpentry, electrical, plumbing etc)
and is willing to help maintain the Hut, then we will be delighted to receive
their help. Once again, welcome to the 6th
Eastcote Scout Troop. We hope this letter has provided you with an insight into
the Group and its running. Please feel free to discuss any of the points raised
or ask any questions that you may have and we will be happy to answer them. We are looking forward to you becoming a part of the 6th
Eastcote Scout Troop and hope that you will be very proud to be a part of it and
of its very good reputation. |
